Introducing Me!

Hey! My name is Hareem and I’m an aspiring digital marketer…

..but before that, let’s take a step back and let me paint a picture for you while we’re here.

I’m a 24 year old, former wanna-be brunette because I read wayyy too many WattPad books as a teenager. Growing up in a military household as my father was in the Air Force meant we had to travel a lot. A new place every year, sometimes even every 3 months. And as children, everything we feel, we feel 10x more. So it broke my heart to leave any place I set foot in for even just a couple of months but that didn’t stop my fragile, beaten-up heart from forming close bonds and affiliations wherever I went.

This self-sabotaging tendency of my mind fascinated me, so I opted to study Psychology for my bachelors, wanting to learn more about the human brain and habits. Long story short, I no longer harbour any wish to pursue the field any longer. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still fascinating. But when you know too much about you brain, you’re always fixated on your brain, your thoughts, the whys, and hardwiring the “positive ones”.

That sounded like a con in my head.

ANYWAYS! I still study psychology on the side, I am just not prone to pursuing it academically for now.

What’s been a constant in my life has been my love for writing. I started writing when I was 14 years old, back in 2013. As I write this, it’s officially been 10 years since.

Writing has easily burns me out when I’m not motivated, but my natural reflexes are to write more when I don’t feel like it. Doesn’t it take you back a few lines to where I mentioned “self sabotaging tendency”? Hmmm..

So, thus began my search for writing gigs, where I could monetise this “talent” I like to exaggerate that I have. I got a bunch of calls in response to my proposals which is good for a freshie’s ego, but it got better when one of the companies I applied for wanted me to manage their social medias as well!

This. This little part of my life… I call epiphanic.

How come I never thought of applying for this role when we’re all basically at some point managing social medias? Our own, yes. Not businesses, yes. Not professionally, not at all. But hey, we’ve got something to begin with, right?!

WRONG.

Diving head first into the world of Social Media Management made realise how diverse it actually is. It’s not like your every day personal blogging. It’s marketing, monetising, analytics, customer appeal, client satisfaction, target market, ideal avatars, developing personal relations, keeping up the brand image while trying not to upset someone and trying to satisfy everyone (which is impossible), to name just a few of the additions! All while being consistent, the golden rule.

It has last month been a year since I started my journey as a Social Media Manager. And the best part about my journey was that I got to dip my toe in every department. I wrote content and a bit of copy, which was what I originally signed up for. I’ve been managing Social Media accounts which is what I was also onboarded with. And I’ve also made graphics, edited videos, and was given the title of Client Happiness Officer! Which is basically client retention services but isn’t the name adorable?!

There were ups and downs, believe me. I’ve made accidental posts that weren’t supposed to go up and I’ve increased our email list for 1600 to 17,000 in just 3 months. But in all of this, I learned more about myself in this year than I had ever known. I got to know how flexible I am creatively. How much I can learn in such a limited amount of time with the additional gigs I got and excelled at and how new challenges excite me where on the contrary I had always believed I fear change and challenge.

Hence, epiphanic.

This epiphany lead to the making of this website. I love writing, social media management, I enjoy copy (when it hits the spot) and video editing and graphic designing is a treat in its own when you enjoy it!

I decided it’s best to have all my works listed here, and blog once in a while about topics that matter to me and are important. From health, travelling, cooking all the way to digital marketing, social media management and the new skills I plan to learn! Sort of like a professional journal, you could say. I’ve always been a sucker for journalling, if only I didn’t keep losing all my diaries/journals.

And if you made it this far, I want to thank you for sticking around and reading this. I’m passionate about connecting with like-minded individuals who share my interests.
